Evelyn 'Pat' Barret was born in Colwyn Bay, Wales. She was one of 5 children in a poor farming family. After her mother left the marriage, her father, William Joines, had to give up the youngest 2 children (as I remember) for adoption.
Mom suffered at the hands of a cruel foster father for several years before leaving for London to support the war effort and get away from her oppressive childhood and its memories.
Mom married shortly after the war and for years tried to retain 'some' religious roots, but it was in her 53rd year that she became a true believer in Jesus Christ. He helped to heal many wounds and gave her talent and levity in both her life and music.
