Born Msizi Professor Mcanyana, at Inanda, North of Durban. Kryptiq Rasul grew up in a region where his peers and elders were influenced by Kwaito music. Of cause it was the mid 90’s and Kwaito was at its zenith. He would sit around listening to one of his neighbors playing 2pac cassettes. “One day he (the neighbor) lends me one of his Rap collection cassettes and from the first track that I played I was hooked”. Though at the time he was six years of age he couldn’t understand English but kept playing this then ‘violent and aggressive’ music. At the age of 8 his father passed away and had to entirely depend on his mother for everything. Year 2001 saw him changing from listening to Rap to “living” it. Largely influenced by Eminem (then) and Dr. Dre, he would study and rap their lyrics publicly and during classes (at school). “People thought I was crazy for doin’ that and one of my neighborhood friend, Mase, later gave me the name Nigga. It was probably cause back then people thought that someone who raps is a n*gga”. By 2003 he started writing his own rhymes at the age of 13 but admits they were ‘wack’. “Those rhymes were as wack as most MCs rhymes are today” In 2004, mid May, him and his family moved to Morningside, a suburb near Durban, to live with his grandmother, a renowned Maskandi artist. “My mother thought that she was escaping crime in the township but didn’t realize that it everywhere like molecules” In the 10th grade, i.e. in 2006 he had been known as Kadog in Hip
