I am a DEMOCRAT!! I went to JC at Tonkawa, Oklahoma. I made the All-Oklahoma JC football team at guard in 1954. My really good friends are from Pawnee, Blackwell, Perry, and Ponca City. I joined the Army in 1955. Served in the 83rd Nike Missiles in a remote missile battery north of the Tri-Cities in Washington. No one gets transferred out of a missile battery. You gotta be smart to qualify and unfortunately repos are hard to come by. I was lucky, having the buddy I joined the Army with stationed at 31st AAA Brigade Hq. in Tacoma. I got my MOS changed to typist, and a short-time later was over the mountains into an intelligence section of 31st AAA. Then, a friendly sergeant told me I had joined the Army to earn, learn, and travel: so which way did I want to go to finish my 3 years: Korea or Germany? Well, it took me all of one second to scream, "Germany!" So, off I went to serve in a two star general's HQ. & HQ. company in Munich (SACOM). What a Boob I was. My IQ kept getting me in trouble. Soon, I was typing endless morning report consolidations from all over South Germany. Two mistakes allowed on any one page. Then one day, a Syrian lieutenant from New York showed asking whether I had played football. He all ready knew that I had because he had info out of my 201 file. So, SACOM was made up of forces which were defending the FULDA GAP. Russian and GI forces practiced year round war games right across the border from each other near the Ural Mountains.
