Haven joined his first band that officially stuck when approached by Luz Elena Mendoza (of Y La Bamba) to start a band called June, where he played acoustic rhythm guitar, backup vocals, wrote, co-wrote, arranged, and co-arranged, their ever-growing collection of band songs. Mendoza moved on to pursue other things, and Haven continued as the new front man with June members Matthew Lee Nickel, and Jonathan Hendrix Vreeland. The three continued under the name Pneuma, bringing on Joel Swensen to play bass.
They eventually disbanded after a couple years of hard work, and came back shortly thereafter as a three piece group called Last of Three, feat. Matt Nickel, Haven Yates, and Jon Hendrix. They played and wrote until the three found wives and married parting again to pursue different things.
Roughly 2015 - 2017, Haven joined hardcore band Proclaimer, where he played bass and sang clean vocals. In 2016, Haven recorded, mixed, mastered and co-produced Proclaimer's first EP - Legacy. In 2017, the band began work on a second EP - False Prophet, also recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Yates.
In April, Yates jumped on an opportunity to audition for The Voice, while Proclaimer went on their first tour without him. Seeing this as a sign of things to come, Yates announced to the band he would be stepping down to pursue his solo career. Yates and Proclaimer quickly found a replacement bass player, and Yates continues to collaborate with the band producing shows, recordings, etc.

Once upon a time, I was in a band with a couple of the coolest guys. Our band name was ‘Last of Three.’ We did a lot of fun shows. I hope someday we are able to play another one. Our drummer, Jon Hendrix is in the army, and the electric guitarist / bass player – Matt Nickel still writes his own songs and plays locally. Matt and I lead worship together sometimes. But for the most part, the three of us just take care of our families, who will always be number one!
