The type of music I am compelled to write would be categorized as Steely Dan meets Jobim...with a bossa beat and voice leadings like Jobim with complex chord structures like Steely with somewhat blazing guitar solos...best example of this style is Donald Fagen's The Goodbye Look...greatly influenced by certain artists and their styles...Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick, Steely, Jobim, Jim Hall's group on Concierto...don't think I've ever heard a better song than their 19 minute version of Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring Jim Hall, Paul Desmond, Ron Carter, Chet Baker, Steve Gadd and Sir Roland Hanna. A real master class in soloing, comping and staying out of each other's way.
Started playing keyboards in a band in college with my best friend Steve Berger, also on Soundclick who played guitar and sang. Have written tunes and played together since then. He has been a significant influence in my music. You can visit his website and hear some great of his original tunes. www.soundclick.com/steveberger
I'll be posting originals that I wrote and play and also some we played back in the day as a group called Sunstone. Stay tuned... :)
