I didn’t come up with Dizzy D. The name found me early and hopped on for the ride. Before I was writing, I was free styling in school hallways and I only had two speeds. Fast, and the level above it. Dizzy D is a persona with a verbal disposition that leaves your mental equilibrium compromised. I’ve added speeds to my gearbox over the years, and now put pen to paper along with my freestyles. That smoking cauldron of rhymes boiling in my head spews spontaneously or simmers slowly waiting for the right ingredients. Just depends on the day.
To be a little more straightforward, I’m a Bay Area boy, deeply rooted. Doesn’t mean that I am constricted to a style. Hip hop, rap, house, r&b, we can call it whatever fancies each of us. It’s music. I’m music. I’ve been listening to all styles since I can remember, and that goes back a ways. East Coast, West Coast, old school and the top 40, underground and mainstream. Doesn’t matter what it’s labeled, as long as it’s art, it’s entertaining, it’s intriguing, and makes you want to say fuck it, and dance on that crowded bus with the song hammering your ears through your headphones.
My first mix tape is here, and it’s off the chain. No really, that’s what it’s called, Off The Chain. Many meaning to that tag line, from the obvious clique we all use, of course, though I like to think about it as finally getting let loose on the Bay, and spreading out from there. I don’t have to be famous, or stacked, but I will be heard.
