RIFE is formed in Imola in 1986. Right from the start the band presents itself as a heavy metal group drawing inspiration from the American legends of the time such as MOTLEY CRUE, QUEENSRYCHE and DOKKEN. Lyrics are sung in English. Following a series of gigs played in and around the band’s home town, RIFE records its first demo-tape in 1987 under the title “MORE MILK”. This immediately receives a favourable response from the music industry press and the radio helping the group to get known outside their local area. RIFE continues to play live gigs and begins to establish a reputation as one of the most interesting newcomers to the Italian music scene, playing with some of the best known heavy metal bands such as SKANNERS, CRYING STEEL,SHABBY TRICK and DEATH SS. The group begins to appear on stage in a host of different towns and cities outside its own region. Particularly memorable are the concerts at Number One in Reggio Emilia and Gratis in Senigallia, the band’s victory at the Chianciano Rock Festival (in the heavy metal category) and the trip to play at Weinheim in Germany. There are changes in the line-up with Paolo Zuffi replacing the band’s drummer and with Alan Veda coming in as a second guitarist; the band then prepares to record a second demo-tape “MESSAGE”. The year is 1989; more than 1000 copies of “MESSAGE” are sold and the reaction of fans and critics alike is positive. RIFE is playing more and more live dates all over Italy and even abroad.
