Stillwater Studios specializes in 'Live' audio recording, bringing that 'live vibe' to the world of CD audio. Most musicians know that the material they perform live comes out quite different in the studio environment. Being a musician myself, I completely understand this. So what to do? Hire a large truck at a large cost to record your next event and pay them more than you make in a year ... not a great idea unless you are U2. I believe in simplicity ... less is more. This is especially true when you start adding effects, hundreds of feet of cable and connectors in between your sound and the final medium. All of a sudden, it doesn't sound like what you performed. Some of the best recordings I've heard have been done with two mics, live, in the 1960s. This is because the mics are key and the ones they used were top quality. Guess what? Almost nothing has changed in the mic business since then. AKG, Neumann, Sennheisser ... all still sell their best models from way back then. So, here is our principle ... take some excellent mics to capture the sound (be it stereo or multi-track) and then feed it straight to a high quality digital recorder working at 96kHz and 24bits. (CD quality is only 44.1 and 16bit). Keep the mastering simple so as not to clutter the sound and there is your final product.
