Multi-Instrumentalist Ken Carter has been playing and producing music with several bands in North Louisiana and Texas for the past seven years. Much of his focus after high school involved playing with local north Louisiana musicians until he got the opportunity to transfer from Louisiana Tech University to The University of Texas at Austin with a music scholarship awarded to him.
"Most of my musical background came from the music that I'd played since the start like classical, blues, and jazz. Granted, I also listened to rap growing up, but you have to realize that from about ages 15-19, I was practicing like 6 to 7 hours a day: Drums, piano, all brass, sax's, oboe, bassoon, english horn. Whatever I could get my hands on really. I'd take a fingering chart and an instrument home and within two weeks, I'd be sight-reading with whatever ensemble I was playing with at the time. It wasn't until I moved in with my uncle (who's also a rapper/producer) in Austin while I was in school that I got thrown into hip hop production. I learned the Triton in and out and that was that."
Since then his musical approach has gone a lot more organic. Blending samples with live instrumentation seamlessly with lush keyboard arrangements, his music is often described as moody and soul stirring.
