B. B. McFadden's first influence is God, then family. When she was 12 years old, the floor tom-tom chose her, it was the last instrument left during her first day of band. The other children didn't want to play the floor tom-tom, but she did. It was her instrument by design. She walked almost 1 mile home with her floor tom-tom in it's black case, she was excited, enthused and proud, but when she reached home, her mother saw the instrument she had chosen and said, "little girls don't play drums," and told her to take it back to school the very next day.
Feeling the sadness gripping her every step of the way, that was her last time ever in a band room. Her dreams were destroyed that day but a power greater than herself knew that within her heart were the sounds of drum beats. It was years later when she picked up a pair of drum sticks again, she always knew it was her destiny. "A dream that dies a quick death as a direct result of the actions of others can be and shall be reborn". Her mother no longer believes drums are just for boys and supports her in her endeavors as a drummer and a Spoken Word Artist.
