The Transition from Nobody to Someone...
May 30, 2007
Well, I dunno why I those this topic, but it seems to be a hot one, especially if your name rings out everywhere you walk and people stop to ask the same question you heard only 100 yards before reaching your current positon on a downtown side walk or in your neighborehood mall. "When's your next album come out?" or "Doing a show any time soon?" or "I still got your older albums, still classics." or "I got that shit in my car right now." the later being flatting comments other then questions. Well, the hard thing that I was describing is changing your name, and riding out the bumpy road only called "transition" as people begin to grab ahold of your new name. Others, well they may never refer to you as your new assumed identity, and identify you, or introduce you to other's as your former self. Which can be a kick in the ass, especially in the independent music industry. So, someone goes out of their way to book you a show, or mention you to a promoter of sorts - and you get this phone call asking for your former self... it can cause some confusion. So you book the show in hopes for the dope usual turn out. You know, the amount of people that would easily pack any venue that you may be used to pulling - like me. But the show's a flop, only because no one reconized the name on the flyer. Well shit - how long do you have to say "Jesus Mics formily known as..." before the crowd starts wandering back in again. It's even more of a blow over, and being stuck in a rock and a hard place - if by chance you haven't recorded or put out any new material in the passed 6months to a year. People tend to forget about you - and when you do get around to doing more shows in and around your city - HATERS come out of the wood works. Or people that can not grow out of a beef that occured 4-5 years prior to today's date. Tsk tsk tsk - so now a potentially DOPE show is ruined by either them, or their groupies. Tsk tsk tsk. HATERS... Anyways, this blog was just a nonsense rant. Maybe another time I might get around to further honing my point onto the topic at hand. Till then. Peace. -Jesus Mics FORMILY KNOWN AS...
