Hey, I managed to put up another song before another year went by. Woo freaking hoo! This one was crafted over the long, lengthy periods of one hour. I had no idea where the song was going, I simply plugged in a couple of guitars and played. I know, it sounds like it but just consider it another piece of the mid-30s Acid Project puzzle. Give it a couple of plays, despite its flaws, it has a way of getting in your head. The lead work was preformed with my trusty American Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Strat. The surprisingly great tone of the chord work was accomplished on my recently acquired 1998 Cort S500. The S500 is a precursor to Cort's well respected G-Series guitars. I picked up the S500 at a thrift store last Saturday for $50.00. It's the best $50 I have spent in a while.
Honey Don't Think - Grant Lee Buffalo Cover
Jun 13, 2009
Well it's been a while again. That seems to be the theme to my blog. I just added my first cover to the Soundclick Website. "Honey Don't Think" by Grant Lee Buffalo was the first song that I had ever heard by these guys. I heard it in the very early winter of 1995. I was listening to WVUA in Tuscaloosa. It was our college radio station and still it's the best college radio station I have ever heard. One night, they played "Honey Don't Think." Something about the song immediately pulled me in. I went the next day to Whirligig records in downtown Tuscaloosa and ordered the cd "Mighty Joe Moon." Usually when you buy a cd based on one song, you get burned. Little did I knwo that I would come to love every song on that album along with all the rest of their albums and then Grant-Lee Phillips later solo work. If you are ever looking for one of those great, lost albums of the 1990s, give "Mighty Joe Moon" a try. You can probably find it on half.com for a buck or less. P.S. The picture is of the Agile 3100. It's responsible for the rhythm. I used the trusty Ice Blue Metallic, Am Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Strat for the lead work. I guess I was feeling it for the blue guitars.
Hurts So Much (Pain and Misery)
Feb 6, 2008
I finally added a new song to the page. Hurts So Much (Pain and Misery). Everything has been a little hectic with the move from Atlanta to Birmingham. Music was put to the side for a few months but mid-30s is getting back into full swing. I am hoping to add some more tunes soon. More than likely there will be a new version of HSM (P&M) as well. I am not happy that the lead work got hidden behind the chords and muffled vocals. The weird vocals were actually an accident but it seems to fit in with the ghostly, garage-alternative sound that mid-30s has been playing for almost two years so right now I am happy to leave them. If you want to know how to create it or better yet how to avoid it. The vocals were created with my range limited voice and a $10 microphone from Wal-Mart run through a POD XT. Right now, HSM (P&M) has somehow pushed its way up to 58 on the Avant Rock Charts of www.soundclick.com. My highest "chart topper" was 45. with A Vicksburg 4th. I would love it if people would join Soundclick and vote for HSM (P&M) also, I guess because of some glitch, Greetings from MonFreddy has reentered the charts so a vote for Greetings would be appreciative too. Here's the link to mid-30s Acid Project's songs on Soundclick. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=641388 Thank you friends of mid-30s. I promise that the mid-30s experiment is ever-changing and ever-growing. Paul
I have uploaded a cover of Grant Lee Buffalo's "Honey Don't Think" off of their amazing "Mighty Joe Moon" album.
