Occasional lyricist and one-time button-pusher (keyboardist).
The difference between a true musician and a button-pusher is that a musician operates on the soul of the music, is fully engaged in the sound, and contributes to its lifeblood. A button-pusher is not so different from a robot, doing everything by rote, unable to deviate from pre-programmed routines. As a machine can generate pre-recorded music, a button-pusher can certainly contribute to a musical sound, and but cannot truly create, nor participate in the creation of an interactive phenomenon.
This is not self-denigration, it is simply self-awareness. In fact, I am pleased with my rote accomplishments. But if you are a musician, please revel in your gifts, and realize that it doesn't come so easily to everyone.
