A born misfit, grew up with "beatnik envy," slid through the "hippie" scene, skidded into oblivion with the punk scene, recovered only to find myself wondering what it all means. As "Mr. Natural," of the old Zap Comix replied: "Don't mean shit." Well, yeah, it does, but not what we think it does. Like Todd Rundgren sang (on A Wizard, A True Star), "There is always more..."

Where was I...?
Jul 27, 2007
HOLY... What a life I lead. Since last March I've been busy with moving. Being responsible for an elderly, disabled and increasingly senile mother and seven (that's right, 7) cats is a 24/7/365 thing. I was offline most of the time since April 1st - I was running Windows ME on an old Compaq with dial-up, and I let everything languish. Then I bought me a spankin' new iMac and slipped into a broadband connection, and I've been configuring and tweaking until recently. I finally reconnected with Soundclick, and I found I really missed being able to access so much excellent music that unfortunately never gets the radio exposure it deserves (I'm so sick of Top 40 I could hurl); I really miss the so-called "underground" FM stations of yesteryear (late 60's to early 80's) that played whatever they wanted and "payola" be damned. I live in the central Oregon area and it's inundated with drugstore-cowboy-country hackers and shallow-sultry diva-wanabe clones. The best station in the area is a tiny non-commercial one that broadcasts out of a Eugene high school, and that gives you an idea of the mindset of the locals in general. Where did it all go wrong?
