Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica and given the name Barrington Bennett. At the age of six, Barrington's parents moved to kingston where he attended Vauvhall Secondary School. This was where Barrington's interest in music began and he got the nick name Bembeh.He played congo and bongo drums in the school's annual pantomine. After leaving school in 1971, Bembeh moved back to Spanish Town where he enter local talent shows. This led him to The Wright Brothers Band. He developed his skills as a singer and Mc for the band. Over the next five years Bembeh worked with several Bands doing shows all over the island.He eventually landed a gig at the hottes night club in Spanish Town called Big Daddy's club. This was the place where Barrington met and introduced on stage artist the likes Delroy Wilson, Phyllis Dillion, Carl Darkins and may more. One night after performing at the club, Barrington was approched by one of the members of Rags and Riches singing group. He was asked to join the group to replace one of their former members. This meeting exposed Bembeh to bigger shows. The group performed at the Christmas morning concert at the Carib Theater and many big shows all over the Island;working with Gregory Issacs,Dennis Brown,Ken Booth just to name a few. Barrington migrated to the US in 1980.He hooked up with some of his friends who had also migrated to the US, The first two Band he sang with was called, Izes then the Heritage Band.
