I have been playing around with synthesizers since the late 80's. I was very much into some of the music from the 70's & esp. the 80's. I was actually really interested in synthesizers around 1981. I was pretty young at the time like approaching middle school age I believe and could not afford one. I guess strategic marketing worked on me. I remember watching one of my favorite 80's band's video on Music TeleVision which had the huge logo of the synthesizer company on it that the band was playing. I could not afford a Jupiter 8 which was the synthesizer in the above mentioned video so my first synthesizer was a used Roland Juno-106 and the first sequencer I used was an Alesis MMT-8. I still have the Juno-106 but have gotten rid of the MMT-8. I was really into synthesis just before the time when sample playback synths were really starting to come into the market. I enjoyed creating new sounds and being inspired by those sounds to write music. This was the late 80's into the very early 90's. Now here we are in 2008. I still like playing around with synths but it is incredible to me how accessible music is for anyone to "Create" something using just a computer and a simple controller. I still use mainly hardware gear. All of my Synthesizers are hardware but I do now use a computer for MIDI multitracking. I do not miss the days of 8-track confinement w/ the MMT-8. I have made music for TV commercials about 10 years ago but have moved in a different direction for now.
