Laya Sutra was formed in Camden Town, London, in 2002. The founding members of the group are all originally from Nepal and although they all now live and work in the UK none of them have forgotten their strong Nepalese routes. The current line up sees Naren on vocals and flute, Jagu and Nir on guitar, Eric on jimbae, Ghost on bass and Allan on drums. All members of Laya Sutra have a passion for music and share a common aim of wanting to create a sound heavily influenced by traditional Nepalese folk music fused with western funk, to create a unique style all of their own. The band has recently been joined by Bass Guitarist Ghost from Brazil and allan from Nepal cruentus band. which has added yet another interesting twist to there ever evolving sound. Their music transcends many genres from reggae to soul and can’t be boxed into any one category, but can truly be called world music. Laya Sutra have preformed at a host of reputable music venues across London and the southeast. Beginning in 2002 at the Mingling in the centre of the Stables Market in Camden Town to their most recent gig in the sadly now defunct, Spitz music venue in East London. Their largest audience and most monumentous gig was at the Pattoslogy world music festival in 2004, where they had the pleasure of meeting one of the bands idols Sir Bob Geldoff. They hope to tour the UK in early 2008 to celebrate the launch of their forthcoming debut album San ya Si, which is being released on nov 2007.
