The Mystrals are an all female band, classy, ballsy, bluesy, sometimes jazzy, classic roots rock alternative country, singer/songwriter stuff with a twist!
Donna & Amy met at Musician's Institute in Hollywood in 1988. in 1990 they were signed to X/S Records an Orange County independent label distributed by Rough Trade and a song from their demo a folk-y cassette single “Little Boys", was released as a casette single in 1991. The next year they recorded and released an album, A Step Down from Luxury, on Acoustic Perfume Records, which received international airplay. The video single from the album was played nationwide on "underground" cable TV. They've played extensively on the west coast, and several colleges in the Western and Southwest regions. Donna Owen was born in Dallas, TX, and raised in Berkeley, CA. She won "best female vocalist" at the 1993 L.A. Music Awards, an awards show for local unsigned talent. Her other talents include thrift-store shopping (finding vintage clothing for the band), and playing the harmonica without smearing her lipstick. Donna also wrote or co-wrote most of the Mystrals material.
