My New Sax
Jan 19, 2007

I didn't know I had a blog. I came upon it by accident. Since it's here I'll use it to show off my new Sax. It's a Trevor James "The Horn" Revolution II, nickel plated with black keys. Isn't it beautiful? My previous sax was a Jupiter which had taken me from absolute beginner on Tenor to the point where I felt that it was holding back my development. I felt my fingers could work faster than the keys, in esence. A few minutes playing in my local shop confirmed this and so I traded in the Jupiter. The TJ has much better ergonomics, the left-hand little fingrer keys are just where they should be and work positively but lightly. The palm keys don't get in the way at all. The latest rack on my music page "Movin On" features the TJ. Gigs attended recently include Scott Hamilton, excellent as usual, playing with bassist Dave Green and pianist John Horler. We also saw Gilad Atzmon. He plays with a very high degree of technical skill, but not always with meaning in my opinion. When he does play well it's superb; he did "Love For Sale" which was just beautiful. He was backed on this occasion by the Frank Toms Trio.
