poetik (or JR, as he is called by family and friends), is a Christian music artist from Columbia, South Carolina. He’s performed at concerts, youth rallies, poetry readings, etc. in the Columbia area, and has plans for touring the nation to spread his message of True Positivity. Ever since the age of 12, JR started writing rap songs for fun after meeting his best friend, Chris Davis, Jr. (Recording Artist, Mystro). Together, along with JR’s brother Omar (Christian producer), they formed the rap group, O1; recording only one song entitled, “Bad Boyz.” But as the boys matured over the years, so did their music and personal missions in life. The rap trio was now defunct, and each member began to find their identity, and discover their purposes in life by seeking the Kingdom of God.
Particularly, the change in JR’s view of the world, and his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is what ultimately defined his musical style and who he is today. No more was performing “just something to do”; it was now a way to minister the Gospel through carefully calculated, yet unadulterated rhythmic teaching. The subject of his pieces suddenly had a more systematic and conversational approach, as if wrote personal letters to his listeners.
