lil mama reb
Jan 30, 2009
Lil Mama Reb is an acoustic blues act hailing from Detroit. Milesov styles has been playing guitar for 30 years. His broad influences include blues, hard rock and heavy metal. In this duet, he serves more as accompaniment than soloist. His high level of guitar skills are easily recognized by all that come to see the band perform. When asked and even encouraged to take more solos, he responds, “that’s not my role here. At least not at this time. I take a few solos. But I’ve got a great singer now, and I fulfill my role moreso than worry about what anyone thinks of my own personal playing.” He adds, “I’ve been doing instrumental rock for a long time, it’s been a nice change of pace.” Lil Mama Reb has been singing in acoustic acts for the past few years. As singer of the band, she has drawn inspiration from the likes of Ma Rainey, Koko Taylor, Esther Phillips, Trixie Smith, Ruth Brown, Mary Johnson, Memphis Minnie, Dinah Washington, Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith and a slew of other blues vocalists, both male and female. She states, “one listen to a record by any of these women, and you quickly realize how great they are. It’s almost intimidating in itself to be covering some of these legends. We’ve been fortunate in receiving positive feedback on the versions we’ve created.” Milesov adds on Lil Mama Reb’s abilities, “she’s rapidly progressing. Recent shows have boosted her confidence level and that’s been very positive. As good as she is, I honestly believe she’s only just begun to tap into what she’s really capable of. And that’s going to be exciting to watch.” On performance, Milesov reflects, “we’ve received a lot of nice comments at the shows we’ve done and jam nites we’ve attended. We’re very grateful for that. People are recognizing there’s something very special about us. Our music, though mostly blues, has been described as being unique, a separate niche from other performers. Having put together the arrangements, that’s a great feeling. The other thing that floors me so far is the incredible number of comments we’ve received about our presence on stage. Over and over, we’ve been told there’s a chemistry onstage between us most bands only dream of achieving. I’m just blown away by that!”
