Other Alternative

Melvin Brewster is in Arrays is the brain child of Robert Lester. The music is made in damp (and not-so-damp) basements, in bedrooms in tiny high-rise apartments with uncomfortably close neighbors, and sometimes outside. Nothing is too unconventional. The ends justify the means. He uses an array of collected instruments, from synths (hard and soft) to dulcimers to pedal steel guitars to upright basses, coupled with a home computer, a few mics, and a lot of dorked out enthusiasim to make the music he does. It is a one man show. Enjoy.
Band/artist history
Well, since it is pretty much all me right now there is no real history. I just do this stuff.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do play live, sometimes with this group, sometimes with other projects. I like it, playing live that is.
Your musical influences
Ok, here are some bands I like, as they relate to what this project sounds like: Brian Eno, Schneider TM, The microphones, Wilco, Air, Okapi, Jason Forrest, Midwest Product, New Order, The Smiths, DJ Shadow, The Dismemberment Plan, My Bloody Valentine, The Sea and Cake, Tortoise, pretty much anything Jeff Parker or John McEntire are a part of, the Aluminum Group, the books, THE BOOKS, THEEEE BOOOOKKKKKKSSS!!!!!, The Faint, Edgar Varese, The Notwist, Dntel, The Postal Service, Aphex Twin... More to come I bet... My music: It is kinda electroinc, kinda rock-ish, kinda pop-ish. I try to make the electronics sound interesting, and I try to use subtlty to my advantage. If I am being too blunt, I consider that a bad thing. I hope I am not failing at it.
What equipment do you use?
Reason, Cubase, M-Audio midi and audio interfaces, GranuLab, Ableton, Marshall and shure mics, computer speakers that are breaking goddamnit, a Roland MC-505, Sibelius, and... hmmm...
Anything else?
If you like my music, and want to use it for anything, or want more, or want to tell me you like it, or anything at all, even if you hate it you can tell me that, just email me. The link is on my page.
