Band/artist history
Singer/songsmith, Maudlin Rich came out of the Antwerp Attic Scene in the late 90s gaining a cult following there with his tuneful, softly sung compositions that were at the same time self-effacing and self-obsessed, life-affirming and world-weary. People have complained Maudlin Rich has listened to Morrissey and Donovan too much. No harm done. People always complain about anything. People should listen to The Auteurs for once and just shut up. He followed his muse and travelled to Liverpool, England, where he quickly made a name for himself on the Cardboard Underground, honing his craft on various stages. He is still honing. Maudlin Rich is extremely well-liked. Among his fans. And that, he often says, is all a man can reasonably expect from life. Which doesnt stop him reaching for more, of course. He has travelled far and wide on the British Isles, Europe and even America, appearing above the surface here and there. And is continually looking to expand his horizons, even though he has on occasion been overheard to admit he will settle for what hes got. Can you believe that? He has recorded these collections of songs: A Young Lad Sins (1996), An Evening With Maudlin Rich (1997), Maudlin Rich Sings Poems By A.E. Housman (1999), Wanderers Blues (2000), No Two Ways (2002) And has collaborated with San Francisco based poet and multi-media artist Robert Jackson (www.thebrink.org) on the following song projects: As It Shall Be (2001), Shine On (2005) None of these are available on iTunes. Yet. He plays his music mostly on his own and acoustically, but he does also plug in and rock out with guest musicians. Ideally, he would like to tour bedrooms and barrooms with one half of the set acoustic, one half electric, like you know.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Bedrooms, barrooms, ballrooms, basements, bike sheds - Maudlin Rich has played them all. It's not easy to find the right sound/ambience for each. The more intimate the better.
