Matthew Fox is a guitarist and songwriter whose Georgia and Texas roots run deep. He has steeped himself in a variety of styles from acoustic blues to swing and his acclaimed originals are rooted in the great Texas story-song tradition. Matthew has appeared on stages, radio programs and at workshops throughout the US, UK and Scandinavia and has recently released his second solo project, the all-original Tall Tales & Plain Lies, featuring the stellar playing of Peter Ostroushko on violin and mandolin, Clint Hoover on harmonica and Gary Raynor of "A Prairie Home Companion" on bass. Matthew is a proud endorser of Langejans Guitars, Diamond Bottlenecks and Elixir Strings.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live solo around the US, UK and Scandinavia and in the Midwest with a great band called The Copperheads (www.thecopperheads.com). I love it! There's nothing like meeting folks in new places and geting to know them (and hopefully pick a few tunes!).
Your musical influences
Many and varied! The great writers of Texas (Van Zandt, Clark, Lovett, et.al.); Doc Watson; Django Reinhardt; Mississippi John Hurt; Big Bill Broonzy; John Prine; Allman Brothers; Jerry Garcia; Mike Marshall; most everything I've ever heard. My music is most often compared to the Texas sounds of Lyle Lovett. A mix of blues feeling, jazz ideas and Southern accent.
What equipment do you use?
I'm an endorser for Langejans Guitars (I play an RGC-6), Diamond Bottlenecks (the "Ultimate") and Elixir Strings (.012-.056). I also play a National Reso-Phonic Style O -- the folks at National are fantastic.
