Band/artist history
I've been singing since an early age at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Clemens, Michigan and at Renaissance Baptist Church in Detroit , Michigan singing in the choir and getting voice training. At Mount Clemens High School my boys and I who have been down since Kindergarten embraced our calling and started our group Strictly Legit... We changed the name a few times but we were mostly remembered as K-SIDE.... We sang the songs of the times, Boyz II Men, HI-Five, Silk, Shai, Intro but mostly we sang Jodeci as well as a few hits from our own catalog "Let's Make Love Tonight", "Rain Drops", "Stormy Weather", and "Freak Move". I also sang in the School Choir singing solos from Tevin Campbell "Can We Talk", Gerald LeVert "I'd Do Anything" and Guy "Let's Chill". After High School and our signings with Biv 10 and Jive fell apart we went our separate ways but vowed never to stop pursuing our dreams. I moved back to Detroit and formed a Rap group called MVP's... Where we had our first hit "Playaz 4 Life", "Playaz Style" and "Home Alone". MVP's was not just a rap group but a movement that influenced youth in the 7 Mile and Lahser area. In 1997, I joined the Air Force and was stationed in Valdosta, GA where i started doing Gospel Hip Hop. Our Youth Leader Minister Mark Brown challenged me get the youth involved so Joe Ross and I started Souljaz Under God (SUG)... we performed at the L.I.F.E EVENT in Valdosta, GA. Now in 2008 I'm takin all the experience and blending it into my own sound. using my R & B, Hip Hop and Gospel background to make people think and bob there heads at the same time. I'm not back in Michigan working with Do 4Self Music to do what people said couldn't be done... it's not just Music it's a Movement... Check us out... I hope you love it.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes I've been performing since high school... to me its so fun... i mean you get nervous but it's the nervousness that gets you hype and brings out the best in you...
Your musical influences
I grew up on Old School Hip Hop the pioneers Run DMC, LL Cool J, MC Lyte, you know cats like that but my heart is R & B, Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Joe, Jon B, Babyface, Keith Sweat the list can go on but of course i'm feeling Gospel as well... anybody from Detroit, The Winans, Bebe and Cece, Commisioned, Fred Hammonds of course, Winans Phase 2, Men of Standard, J Moss, The Clark sisters and so much more...
