Maria "More" Williams, Poetess and Lyricist, embraces musical artistry through a passionate release of thought invoked words over smooth instrumentals created by Atlanta based producer, Andrew Lane. Maria has been writing for more than 8 years and contributes her style to the musical influences of Bahamadia, Lauryn Hill, Sade, and more recently, Jill Scott. Pioneering a new sound, Maria More creatively blends a smooth lyrical delivery over tracks that fuse jazz, R&B and hip-hop sounds. Often referred to as the "Sade" of hip-hop, Maria attempts to create music that not only sounds good, but "feels" good.
In 1998, Danny Harris, CEO of Parlane Entertainment, discovered Maria while she was working on her undergraduate degree at Florida A&M University (in Tallahassee, Florida). At that time, Harris was in search for a choreographer for his band, The Phat Cat Players. Initially, Maria performed as a back-up dancer and choreographer, but once Harris learned of her lyrical ability and stage presence, he decided to add her as Parlane Entertainment's first and only female hip-hop artist.
Maria continued to perform with the band and ultimately contributed to the breaking R&B Soul album "Make It Phat, Baby" (released in the Spring of 2000) which acquired national acclaim for the hit spoken-word single "Sundress" performed by C.O.C.O. Brown. She made specific contributions to the singles: "Phat Cat Theme," "Ain't No Sunshine," and "Stay High," all of which were featured on the "Make It Phat, Baby" album.
In 2004, Maria teamed up with C.O.C.O. Brown for the recording of "Ooh Wee," a new duet spoken word single that highlights the full-scope of unconditional love shared between a man and a woman. Currently, Maria is recording and touring with the Phat Cat Players. She is supporting the follow-up album to "Make It Phat, Baby," and a new solo project by C.O.C.O. Brown. She plans to later release her debut solo album that will feature both her poetic and hip-hop works.
