Simon J started this band in the ashes of a previous band ( nameless ) that became the talk of local Sydney rehearsal rooms. People who heard them blasting through the padded walls of room 4 in the studio's beneath the inner city freeway underpasses spoke in whispers regarding the imminent dates of up coming gigs that never transpired. The revolution would not be realized and the various members went their own ways. Two years later the re-emergence of Simon J's musical bent has seen him turn his attention towards a new project which culminates in Mansfield Crash - a band that currently exists only within a temporary autonomous zone until other members have been aligned to it's trajectory. In the meantime Simon J play's all instruments - sings, produces, records and writes the raga's in situ. A drummer and bass player are still required for live shows. Mansfield Crash owes it's genesis to atmospheres as much as literature and post humanism - Baudrillard and Ballard would be as important to the musical muse as Holger Czukay and Keith Rowe. Mansfield Crash is any kind of music that finds it's way into Simon J's creative process - it is free from genre though labels prevail due to necessity of understanding. You may hear any type of music when listening though it is rooted in the voodoo of guitar based musical forms. Many songs are written though currently only a few are recorded. The songs presented here are left overs from the previous incarnation of Simon J's band. Be a part of this moment and enjoy.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes we play live but currently the band constists of just Simon J so it's as yet a future engagement.
Your musical influences
The influences are many and varied - as the Indians say "Nada Brahma" - all the world is sound. Simon J likes the avant garde and those with their heads in the salon apocolypse;. More importantly silence is golden. Respect goes to the integrity of Josh Homme and bands like Dungen.
What equipment do you use?
Sound City and Bandmaster amplifiers. Ovation and Danelectro guitars. Many vintage and boutique effects.
