Band/artist history
Manahil is a musical project from Quebec City that explores many ways of creating music. The band is Mathieu Fiset on keyboards and Hind Fazazi on vocals. The whole adventure started after a friendly jam session in August 2006. The two friends were often exchanging ideas and thoughts about music and naturally, they started to compose togheter. They quickly realised that their compositions were really unique and interresting, so they decided to record a demo. The general mood of Manahil’s music is dark and strongly influenced by arabian music. There is also a lot of industrial, progressive and even metal influences in the mix, creating a style often called « Manahil ». During their first year of existance, Manahil worked on their debut album « Hadayane » wich is a global view of Manahil’s mysterious and original music. The album was released during September 2007 and was well received from listeners and critics. Now the band concentrates on upcoming shows and searches for a record label to help out with the next album.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We do play live, only in Quebec for the moment. We like it but I feel that the true power of Manahil is in the studio, experimenting with the sounds.
Your musical influences
As a keyboard player I was really influenced by Jens Johansson, Jordan Rudess and Derek Sherinian, I am also influenced by other musicians like Steven Wilson, Trent Reznor, Ryuichi Sakamoto, etc... But as a composer...that much more complicated !! I listen to everything, and everything influence me, but I could say that metal, rock and progressive music in general is my main influence.
What equipment do you use?
I use a Korg Triton LE for everything, I use it with all my bands ! But I also have a Roland digital piano to have a greater piano feel.
Anything else?
I hope you listen and like our stuff !
