When i was 15 i got tired of the music being played on the radio. So i decided id get a little creative and take my little boombox with a built in mic and a toy dj with preset beats and create my own music. It wasnt appropriate for lyrics, but i liked what came out. lol
I was in treatment at Dakota House in aberdeen, sd locked away cause my mother didnt want to take care of me. What else was i to do? I was always drawing, reading harry potter books, and listening to music. One day, i was insulted for my music and i ended up quitting music for 2 years. Yet when i turned 17, a guy named Fat Cat (musician name) (he's on reverbnation.com) (Check my page @ www.reverbnation.com/malibujayhawkins) Brought in his acoustic guitar and started playing. I became inspired and i asked him what drives him and he told me his heart.
So went and bought my first acoustic guitar and he taught me how to play. Then as i got into it, i went a bought an electric guitar. Also Fat Cat taught me that. I recorded all my tracks on to an mp3 player made by Creative (TM) that had a built in mic untill someone stole it. Then as the years went on i had a Q4 samson performance mic, a concertmate keyboard, and a double tape deck. Then a computer with a headphone mic. Then an upgrade to a Q6 performance mic, Same concertmate keyboard, a candy apple red electric guitar(later got stolen), and a 4 track tape recorder. Then i decided id take it up a notch. I bought a computer, mixcraft 4, and a headphone mic. Then i got into it more. Still using the same computer, i went and bought a new guitar, a tube condenser mic (used the foam from the case it came with to filter reverb), a pop filter, Got a keyboard from a friend, got t-racks, a new amp, a pair of sony studio moniter headphones, got 12 inch optimus speakers, a punch subwoofer, a technical pro 3,100 watt amp, a behringer mixer (2 mic pre amp), Reaper recording software, installed a creative live hd soundcard, got the auto audio mastering system, t-racks high end mastering system, got reason 4 then upgraded to reason 5, and set my music all over the web. Now it is made possible just to google Malibu Jay Hawkins just to check out my music and what i have been up to. wow. thats alot of work. I have been doin music for 8 years and i learned alot along the way like mastering, mixing, promoting, lyrics, vocals, piano, keys, beats, song structure, guitar, and just keepin it real.
So heres the truth and nothin but the truth. I created M-records when i was 18 to back me up, then i changed it to Saxa Records Studio Productions and now im staying as an indie artist. Keepin true to the love of music im dedicated to. I tried doing other occupations in my life, but music seems to be the only thing im best at. (the haterz disagree, i say dont be an industry bitch.) pretty much as i said it. lol Do u, dont sound like everybody else, just be u and stay true to what u do. This is the meaning of saxa records. Just like when the jazz man plays that saxophone. :)
