”As the name suggests, MADTRAP is all about intense alternative rock music. An amalgamation of different musical influences, one can hardly recognize the musical styles incorporated into one solid entity that is madtrap sound. Well placed percussion work and playful guitar riffs dominate the air while the structures of the songs are pleasantly guided by a more relaxed vocal style creating a logical agreement of all the elements”
Madtrap is: Tres de Leon [vox/guitars], Pey Tomas [drums] and Mike Fernandez [bass]. A project initially put together by vocalist, Tres de Leon’s solo work “isang dangkal” which was included as part of Jam 88.3’s local licks in March of 2005. Tres and Pey Tomas were together as ‘bluballs’ frontman and drummer respectively, playing with then bluerats guitarist Jonathan Manuel back in 1997. They played together as trio for several years on small events but nothing progressed as a band due to personal differences. A story that’s plagued countless groups, small and big that walked the same path as rock musicians before them.
Tres de Leon went back to writing music and attended to his profession as a dental health practitioner. Pey Tomas concentrated on clinic work as well and held his office in Las Pinas. The two periodically met up with other friends-sessionists [drinking buddies] to work on Tres’ materials. Then after months on jam’s playlist, isang dangkal became the groundwork for Tres’ writing style. It was time to formulate a sound that will soon be called Madtrap.
Mike Fernandez came in to complete the lineup. Mike was waterfront’s bassist and an expert sessionist who happens to be just perfect for Madtrap’s cause. Applying their personalities to the music they amalgamated a newwavyish, progressive and alternative sounding, rock music so fresh, one just can’t seem to categorize. Tres was pleased with the madtrap sound he decided to submit a demo of ‘the flame’ to jam883. It enjoyed huge airplay and requests for two months. Tres wrote 12 songs for their ‘Models of Grief’ demo cd and tons more waiting to be completed.
Madtrap is presently on a state where it needs a venue to share their passion for music. They are looking for the right people to direct their professional growth as the madcrew.
Soundgarden, Yes, the Who, the Dawn, Rush, Rollins Band, Mr. Big, Eric Martin Band, Death & Taxe$, Dave Weckl Band,
Prefers Teles and Stratocaster. We use patches but mainly through GNX4 and a few pedals just to add flavor. Straight to a decent fender amp would work for us.
