An ecletic fusion of 80's Rock, 90's Alternative and timeless Folk, Lovecraft blends together all that is good in music and creates a mixture of very 'catchy' melodic Pieces.
Born in the early '70's just north of Indianapolis into a highly musical family, Lovecraft’s early years were constantly filled with song. He often joined along with his mother and 6 sisters singing just about anything he heard and gained an ear for music early on.
He began seriously playing guitar at the age of 14 and was inspired by the ‘Heavy-Metal’ music of the mid ‘80’s from such bands as Def Leppard, Scorpions, Cheap Trick, Ratt, Motley Crue, Winger and Dio.
He was duplicating the tricky riffs and harmonizing with the vocals almost from the start and began to notice the patterns and styles that all music share right away.
Not too long after he was writing his own bits of music and prose and leading several high school garage bands, often more than 2 or 3 simultaneously.
In the late ‘80’s he attended college and continued to ply his trade as a hobby with the local college scene.
He didn’t pick up much of a following at that time, but his music was still a bit rough around the edges and his style was going out of style.
In his early 20’s he put together a powerful 4-piece band he called Greyhawk and began to really take his music seriously.
After negotiating a deal with a regional booking agency he took his band all across the Midwest playing clubs and events.
The band normally headlined their own shows but had the honor of opening for such groups as Richrath (Led by the former REO Speedwagon Guitarist Gary Richrath), Sweet FA, Dangerous Toys and Skid Row.
After a year of this tenure Lovecraft began to feel the need for more recent and concise original songs.
He also felt the pressure of Playing, Managing, Producing and Leading a rock band all at once on the fly.
He let the Greyhawk boys go in the spring of ’95 and began working on his own ‘personal’ music.
After 5 years of soul searching, song writing and electronic experimentation Lovecraft is now doing something completely different.
He has been in his home studio for the last 4 months producing and recording his first official album.
All music and lyrics written, performed and recorded by him alone.
The Album ‘Ex Libris’ (Latin for ‘From my Library’) shows Lovecraft as a musical force to be reckoned with.
His musical diversity and harmonic mastery is evident is every single track.
From the Hard Hitting ‘Forced Entry’ to the hauntingly melodic ‘She waits’ to the sweet yet powerful 'Alone', Lovecraft proves that all he needed was the gear to get the job done.
Singles from the Album are already being played across the Internet at such sites as MP3.Com, Napster, Farmclub and Scour Exchange and at Lovecraft’s own personal site http://www.lovecraftmusic.com.
The full CD should be available some time in December or January. And Lovecraft is looking for a record label to help him get his music into the hands of the people of the entire world who according to Lovecraft "desperately need a fresh new take on the whole music concept".
I do have a group of about 9 musicians who rotate in and out of what I guess you would call a backup band. We play live locally and regionally for showcases and for fun.
Live , Def Leppard , Saigon Kick , Scorpions , ELO , Cheap Trick , Squire, Palmer, Joel, etc... All the good Rock, Metal and early Alternative stuff.
I play all my own instruments.
I use Hamer Electric Guitars, Takamine Accoustic Guitars, Fender Basses, Yamaha Keyboards, Ludwig Accoustic Drums, Roland Electronic Percussion, DOD and Scorpion Mixing, Tech 21 effects, Cakewalk software, Windows ME software and a Gateway 1GHZ AMD PC with 256M ram.
I really do appreciate all those who enjoy my music. I really do listen to your reviews. I won't forget ANY of you if and when I hit the top.
