"Man and technology in tonal harmony balancing on a thread from the tapestry of Life..."
Band/artist history
Always loved music - collecting it, playing it, dabbling with creation...
Always had musically talented friends and taken every opportunity to "jam"...
1999 - decided to take my musical interests beyond 'hobby'...
1999 - LJS tracks played in Brighton & Hove & elsewhere in the UK...
2001 - "Freak-me-knots" played on MTV...
2001 - co-produced "eJayberFest" with my wife (who's idea it was); a live, one-day event bringing together members of an online community of 'unsigned' artists under one roof, playing their tracks in a venue and broadcasting it to the world via 'Net radio...
2001 - LJS tracks played in Ibiza...
2002 - played briefly at Sandals, Jamaica (Ocho Rios)...
2003 - wrote the UK manual for and the demo for the 'dance' edition.
2004 - Contracted by Empire for music s/w QA.
2005 - Involvement with Ivy Arch Studio.
...The Future Awaits...
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Not currently - although I have played (as a DJ) in Brighton & Hove and performed a couple of my own tracks in Jamaica in 2002...
I'd love to DJ properly again someday... But for now I'm happy to broadcast on the Internet from home...
Your musical influences
A wide range of influences: classical, opera, pop, rock, reggae, dub, rap, blues, trance, techno, breakbeat, drum 'n' bass, ragga, ska... Just about everything really...
Specifically (and in no particular order):
David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Bob Marley, Horace Andy, Lee Perry, Black Uhuru, Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Urian Heap, Motorcycle, Darude, Marshal Mathers (Eminem), Dr Dre, Eurythmics, Althea & Donna, Dandy Livingstone, Steel Pulse, Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim, Gary Numan, Led Zeppelin, ATB, Adam & The Ants, Stray Cats, Fats Domino, Big Bopper, Duane Eddy, Alanis Morrisette, Alice Cooper, Alice Deejay, Anabolic Frolic, Apollo 440, Armin van Buuren, Artful Dodger, Augustus Pablo, Seal, Baccaccia Life, Art of Noise, Enigma, Benny Benassi, Big Bruvaz, Black Eyes Peas, Blank & Jones, Burning Spear, Busta Rymes, Chicane, Elton John, Culture, Cygnus X, Depeche Mode, Fred Locks, Flanders and Swan, Fugees, G.O.L., Grand Master Flash, Ian Van Dahl - and many, many, many more...
What equipment do you use?
Pentium 4 (R-bus connection)
Roland VS-2480 24-track (R-bus connection)
Korg "Karma" (MIDI connection)
Yamaha SY-55 (MIDI connection)
Freebass FB383 (MIDI connection)
Electrix "WarpFactory" vocoder (MIDI connection)
Cakewalk "Sonar" XL 2.2
Reason 2.0
FruityLoops "Studio" 4.1
CoolEdit Pro 2.0
VSTi/DXi soft-synths
VST/DX processors
Massive sample library (67,000+ = 6GB)
Although I have dabbled with eJay (and other "instant music" packages) my 1st love was always Cakewalk - and still is; especially now it hooks into Reason & soft-synths with ease...
