Band/artist history
A goal has been reached for a small independent record label established in Texas. This label, FANNYMACK JAMZZ!!!, is San Antonio based. Since January of 2000, we have been recording local artists and providing quality music. As a result, FANNYMACK JAMZZ!!! is now poised to release its very first full-length CD which is entitled Hip Hop Flows. This CD is the love child of Mack LiKWiD Thomas who served as the producer, composer and recording engineer for the entire project. Since the young age of eight and being enticed by his grandfather, the late Rev. J. C. Bailey, and his grandmother, B. L. Bailey, he has studied music and learned to play multiple musical instruments. He first acquired his drive to pursue music by taking piano lessons which eventually led to his desire to learn to play the guitar. That was the beginning of LiKWiDs pursuit to learn to play other instruments and the development of his love for music which to this day is still very strong.
Many people think that all musicians tend to be irresponsible and in most cases, not very intelligent. But for this one man, music was the catalyst for great things to come. Not only was he an honor student at Edison High School (National Honor Society Member), but he was also the first chair clarinet player in marching band and the guitar player in the jazz band. He later went on to The University of Texas at San Antonio where he pursued and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. He then followed this achievement up by obtaining his State of Texas granted Professional Engineering license in the Civil Engineering discipline. While all of this was happening, his music became more than just a hobby to him and in time, LiKWiD began to focus more intensely on his compositional skills.
The most important thing for him was to transfer all of the happiness that was within him into his music. He has grown musically to the point where he can easily compose music in different genres and he also enjoys working with different types of artists. Mack LiKWiD Thomas is an eclectic man somehow ahead of his time.
This full-length CD entitled Hip Hop Flows, the first of many to come, is a compilation of various artists and styles of hip hop. It is a good example of how many things go through one mans mind. LiKWiD recently stated, It was important to me to give an opportunity to several artists that I had recently worked with in the studio. They did not have the means to put themselves out there in the public eye and at the time, thankfully I did.
I think we all have something to share and we are all talented in various ways. Many of the artists that appeared on the CD did not even pay to record, but they were talented and that was all that mattered to me at the time. I needed these artists to give a soul to my music because the artist is very important. I am a composer/producer, but without the artist in the hip hop genre, the art is incomplete.
FANNYMACK JAMZZ!!! is a multi-genre label that specializes in hip hop, hip hop and R&B, Dance/Techno and tropical. We are currently searching for artists that we can develop and grow with at a compatible pace. Our goal is not only to form a strong camp where we can achieve industry recognition, but most importantly to show that San Antonio has a wealth of untapped talent. We are very overlooked as far as the music industry is concerned.
My grandfather once told me that doing the right thing was not always very popular, and I have come to find that to be very true many times. But I refuse to believe that in order to be successful in the hip hop game, a track has to contain lyrical content talking about T and A in order to make it in the industry. I refuse to believe that lyrical content of that nature is all that people want. I think that music has its own merit and it should be viewed as such. It would be much easier to follow the crowd and produce songs that would appeal to hard-core hip hoppers by following the stereotypical recipe for hip hop production, lyrically speaking.
But up to now, as a good, honest and Christian man, I have to tell you that it has been hard to find artists that are willing or even confident enough in their ability to pull-off an edgy performance minus the excessive amount of profanity. Ive had to explain to my artists on many occasions the fact that the profanity in their lyrics will not be aired on the radio and that The major retailer of this day and age which is Wal-Mart, will not even stock merchandise that contains explicit lyrical content. That being the case, why set yourself up to start behind the starting line so to speak? Just cut to the chase and come with strong, gritty, edgy lyrics without the profanity. Ive also told many of my artists that it is much more impressive to Wow a crowd by sheer lyrical talent versus a bombardment of what is in most cases that Ive seen, a pointless attempt at the use of profanity.
It is my dream to convey to the world through music the blessings that I have received in my life. That is why in this CD entitled Hip Hop Flows, the goal was to incorporate positive lyrics into the songs; not soft, but positive because it is important to me as a member of the industry to blur the line between what is considered to be underground hip hop and mainstream hip hop.
Always Kickin That LiKWiD Flow,
