Band/artist history
I started singing in a boys choir (Cambridge Kiawanis Boys), when I was seven, and I got my first drum set around then too. The choir was based in Canada, and it toured Ontario, Quebec, Eastern U.S., and Europe during my stint. We did two albums (on vinyl!) That got me hooked. Started playing in my first band at 14, and my first gig was at 16. We did the album thing. I should post it! I went to Humber College for percussion performance. I dropped acid and realized why Miles and the boys played that way (the drugs done it... it's true... sad, but true.) I dropped out of college after three years ( with one to go. should have finished what I started, but I'm too damn distractable!) I played in many cover bands of a wide variety of styles in British Columbia, and worked on the obligatory original band that was gonna make me a star... Of course, our egos preceded our fame (what, you never heard of the ska-rap band Bonafide from Quadra Island!?!) and we collapsed under our own enourmous weight. So, I started another band. And did more bar/ band cover scenes. I played more gigs. I swithed to bass and vocals. I sucked for a while. I got good, I over worked. In 2002 I played 100 gigs, worked a 40 hour a week job as a human resources manager, taught 17 drum students a week, and tried to raise a family. I collapsed on Oct. 7, 2002 with a bleeding ulcer and nearly died. If my wife hadn't been home, I would have done the Jimmi Hendrix. I stopped everything, slowed down.... and here I am. Back on earth, and ready to rock.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
YES. Any where I can. Yes. Yes.
Your musical influences
The sun. Life. I enjoy the angst trip that seems to go in and out of vogue. Crossing styles. Different rhythmns. I think as more and more people get diagnosed with A.D.H.D., it will become clear that "normal" and other pigeon-holing words are marketing tools. I like music. I'm influenced, in my chronologically historical way, by the following: (DEEP BREATHE) Classical and choral music (secular and non-secular, the Beatles, my parent's musical influences, Cheesy 80's pop like Duran Duran, Judas Priest,Quit Riot, Metallica, The Northern Pikes, Misc. bands from pop, metal and alternative of the 80's, U2, the Cult, The Cure, The Police, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Clash, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Beastie Boys, NoMeansNo, Miles Davis, Misc. Jazz groups from the late 40's, 50's and early 60's, Marley, Tosh, Primus, RageAgainstThe Machine, (BREATH AGAIN), and so-on and so on. Plus, you can't discredit the hundreds of cover tunes I've played drums, bass or sang on. Singing bar tunes changes you... and most importantly, my teachers, musician friends and the absolutely most significant influences would be friends, family, enemies, experiences... you asked.
What equipment do you use?
my fingers, feet, throat and brain.
Anything else?
I've got a sick sense of humour.
