Rapper-Songwriter LaPret Solo Debut!Band/artist history
Rapper-Songwriter LaPret released his solo debut single “Do A Dub” under South Capitol Recordings; the single features Russell “Roc” Tolson and KeVonna “Misfit” Graves of Third Prodigy. You’re probably thinking how can this be his solo debut single when it features his groupmates? Simple, LaPret takes lead on this highly-anticipated single, as he proclaims himself as a rising performer. He touches on recent press headlines surrounding the controversial split of teen group Profound Intent and the misleading perception that many have of him and his career.
Credited for the formation of a new teen group “Third Prodigy”, the single “Do A Dub” was never intended to be released as a single. Until label executives heard the track. Amid the controversial split of Profound Intent; LaPret, a background vocalist KeVonna Graves, and Russell Tolson (formerly of Profound Intent) formed “Third Prodigy” by a twist of fate. Tolson, who performs as “Roc” was slated to appear as a guest artist while Graves (Misfit) was to appear as a background vocalist on what was to be a just-for-fun track released on MySpace. In the weeks following after, the three decided to continue recording as a group, a decision that pleased South Capitol Recordings.
Meanwhile “Do A Dub” has been released as a solo debut single from LaPret, as a response to all the recent media controversy and rumors. No solo EP or LP release is slated to follow. On the single LaPret makes mention to the infamous Destiny’s Child split, as he recalls a recent statement made by a reporter who said that “LaPret seems to rearrange groups like Beyonce did with Destiny’s Child”. The single written by LaPret and produced by Karl Edwards samples from “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” a recent smash. “Do A Dub” as in “to do a double take”, tells spectators to look twice before underestimating LaPret’s talent and notability.
The single has been released as originally heard by executives, exclusively to iTunes, where fans can purchase the “Do A Dub” remix. LaPret, Roc and Misfit are currently working on the Third Prodigy EP release set for Spring 2008. Until then enjoy “Do A Dub”. Stay Tune!Your musical influences
