# # # + + + Lack of Energy or Interest was a band formed by three 16 year olds in 1998 (or whenever) with the sole aim of being pretentious (like ). Two young stoners ( and ) and one young synth and prog rock geek (, who now sports a fantastic ginger afro/mullet combo). We made mainly long (5-30 minutes long) jams, of repetitive electronic loops with synth noodling and guitar wanking. We then used these as drafts to help us create condensed moments of genius (commonly called 'songs'!) sometimes tightly structured and rehearsed, sometimes loose and lolloping..... occasionally joined in with his cheesey guitar skills and some samples i made of his terrible spazz fits ("scratches and wriggles up your anus")!!!! ... yes, well!
Band/artist history
"Ive just been on the LOEOI webpage - brilliant. Ill have to send you all the stuff ive got of us - theres nine CDs worth of stuff. Ive never heard that version of Fashion Smoker before - the version ive got is ten minutes long, has got the Amiga 500 voice and you talking through an octave pedal before going into a jam with the groovebox going and me and Robbie going mad on guitar and synths. Ive got all the details of when and how all the tracks were recorded, and who plays what if you want to put it on the website. It would be great to put the whole Empire gig on there - thats probably the best gig we did and is the best recording of one anyway, and bits of the Lancaster Uni gig aswell. Nice one, Ill see you later. Grayz" -Graham
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We played three (I think) gigs - largely unrehersed, improvised gigs to confused and annoyed crowds. One gig i had to use an ironing board to support my equipment - the other included two djs scratching furiously and a drummer who stole the show.
Your musical influences
At this point we were all about obtuse seventies prog rock - et al. But also electronic stuff like and , and dub like . This band however eventually developed into the Kevines, then the , a U.K. hip hop band tearing up the underground currently and sounding completely different to any of this stuff.
What equipment do you use?
Here is Graham's instrument list from the time of the band: synthesizer - sadly deceased synthesizer Technics SX-KN750 (1994) - mainly for organ and piano sounds Rickenbacker Bass Guitar (1978) "All the music was recorded on an AKAI Professional Portastudio 12 track machine with a 15 gig hard drive. The synths were put through an Alesis rack mount Midiverb III unit. I think Robbie used a Tanglewood electric guitar and a Squier Precision Bass. He had a Boss floor guitar effects pedal aswell." - Graham Kev used a (so did Robbie) and the dreaded Akai S20 sampler (check out middle bit of . There was a drumkit in there and a bunch of cheap distructable microphones..........
Anything else?
Related artists, i.e. mates and stuff.... The S.K. Crew are a hip hop band from the UK (not to be confused with UK hip hop!). They are fucking brilliant, fact..... - "wide variety of styles with elements of hip hop, jungle, dub and blues. That and a lot of musical nonsence and cheese, T'hell the genre bit, have a listen and see what you think." -Ralph - "Dark Congo, the future of worship, and a racey little number with a killer solo". -Mat
