KING KOLD HISTORY
As king (Richard Westbrook) grew , he became obsessed with the underground Acid Rap sciene and started building a small following with WonderLand. After losing ties with each others intrests, the boys split to do other projects. Hatcher worked on a solo cd "Midnight Suiside" while King went on to form Method of Chaos along with Logan Methena and release "Kanji". After completion, Logan left MoC, leaving King to work on a solo career. Eventually Hatcher and King reconciled their differances and went back to what they are best at, beinging the terrible 2. The name KLEAVER was thought up and the rest is history. After leaving Kleaver, King has been on a never ending spree of respect from the underground. Earning the little bit of respect he can piece by piece, King is fighting to put in his perspective and hoping to have his voice heard among the screams of the competition.
As a native of Evansville Indiana, King grew up in the south side In the block of Sweetser and Riverside, or better known as Oak Dale. But with every struggle comes the urge to succeed. So King uses his past as a form of fuel for much of his Lyurics used on his albums.
Shortly after meeting the Darksydaz King began Developing his talents to an extent he had not breeched before. The Boys set up shop and built Darksyde Entertainment, a Label dedicated to using a artists potental to the fullest. With the guide lines drawn, King hopes that he will make a name for himself and his label. But more importantly, king wants to be known for making other artists want to improve themselves. To quote King himself "Great people dont live great lives, but influence others to do so. If i can take one kid that wants to succeed and give him a reason and oppertunity to do so, then i effect his audience as well, although it might not seem direct."
Kings first cd, Pride and Misconceptions, was a reflection of his personality and what he was going through at that moment of time. The idea behind Pride was the general outlook King has of himself. “I know im just a fish in a sea full of many, but unlike the others im a completely different kind of fish.”
As King contenues his quest to become the next thing in hip-hop he becomes more discusted at the means other artists will go to to sell records. “I wont even front, a lot of these guys will rap about the same shit that the next guy says just because it sells records. This is a big industy and it is shady as hell. But what I want to do is exclude that type of rap from Darksyde all together, not that it was there in the first place. But the mainstream is a virus and many rappers will sell their souls to major record companies for a few minuets of fame. That’s not what I wish to achieve with my brand of underground rap.”
Kings plans for his next two records, are not the same formula that Pride And Misconceptions was wrote for. “The next two records are going to be much easier to make. In fact im about of the way done with Mind Over Matter (kings second album) and working on a few tracks for my third (record), Global Apparatus.”
Although on Darksyde Records King is a free agent, being under no paperwork, but is not very interested in signing with another lable. “You really don’t know the advantages to recording and permoting with some of your closest friends. It has its up and its downs, but as long as the ups out number the downs, we have no issues with anything. Everyone helps each other and gives their two cents when needed and most of the time opinions are incouraged.”
