Formerly of . Solo work is back on track, and 2005 saw a number of productions after a fairly dismal 2004 which saw a total system failure, and the resultant loss of *all* of my music, starting from around 1997. It was a painful year or so, but I've actually grown as a musician from the experience. So far, 2007 has been a prolific year, finishing two full albums (which will be available to buy at some point, hence why the taster tracks are not downloadable), called Bioluminescence and Contact. Outsource/Virii is on hiatus (read: not coming back) at the moment. Both Nik and I are too busy with our respective solo projects and other collaborations (such as Nik with Al Azar) to spend time doing work which was a compromise between our different styles. I guess we may produce something every now and then, such as our last collaboration - "A Dirty Shame" under the guise of Cat In A Can.
Band/artist history
Kier Bates has been immersed in electronic music for the best part of a decade. Originally taught brass and woodwind instruments at ten, he moved on to making electronic music on a PC "instant music" program in the mid 90's at the age of fourteen, where after being lauded by peers for his music around this time, he decided to switch to Reason. After a few months of experimentation, Kier produced a track which would be a seminal work for the community, eventually bringing Kier and another artist together to work under the guise of Outsource (later Virii - now defunct) for an immensely productive and successful partnership. Following the end of the collaboration (which has never technically ended, though the last release was three years ago), Kier found himself burned out, through a number of factors - a number of personal, the loss of all of his music files between 1997 and 2002 (somewhere in the region of 500 individual creations, many of which were lost forever), and that the sheer rate of tracks being created had wilted his enthusiasm for music in such a way (taking him four years to actually be able to listen to trance music again, for example) that he considered fully quitting music production. This has now been turned on its head, and in the last half-year to nine months, Kier has begun producing again with some sense of normality (all previous tracks were sporadic in release, with some taking more time than it would take to produce an album), and is currently behind schedule (as usual) in producing a double album's worth of material for various projects, tentatively pencilled in for mid-late 2006. Current releases "Tomorrow We Live", "Dusk and Dawn" and "Bioluminescence" are available for full streaming on , with more full length music to come in the shape of "Contact" very soon.
