Ross Phase R1 demo with OD Ross Phase R1 demo with OD

Another demo of the Ross Phase R1 (MXR Phase 45 style pedal) phaser. I'm using a Gibson Les Paul Faded into a Box of Rock and out of a DRRI. The pedal and amp are EQ'd in favor of my hollowbody, so the recording is a bit on the bright side.

Ross Phase R1 demo Ross Phase R1 demo

Test of a 1977 Ross Phase R1 with the knob set at 9, 12, and 3 o'clock. I recorded the guitar without using a strap. That contributed to, but isn't the sole cause of, the sloppy play...I definitely contributed to that.

MXL990 demo - acoustic (Something Random) MXL990 demo - acoustic (Something Random)

Quick test of a cheap MXL 990 Condenser mic while playing "Something Random". Acoustic guitar used is a 1981 Takamine F360S strung with Elixirs.

MXR Carbon Copy v2 demo MXR Carbon Copy v2 demo

MXR Carbon Copy v2 demo. The song I'm playing was one that I previously recorded as a demo of a Line 6 Spider Valve. Listening to the clip, I realized that the previous song was recorded as two separate parts. Oops. I should rerecord this.

Alternative General

This is my musical sketchbook, if you will. Most of the songs here are rough ideas or recordings to test out different gear, settings, or whatever else musical might come to mind. I'm a rhythm guitarist, so you won't find blistering leads or odd scales. There are people far better equipped to provide that than I am. I'm just a guy who knows some chords, has what I'd like to believe is a decent sense of melody, and likes to get ideas down before I forget them. Enjoy. If you want to leave a comment, do so. As someone on one of thegearpage.net said, "iron sharpens iron", so don't be afraid to tell me what you think...good and bad. I can take it. I'm searching for a new voice, and sometimes, a good, constructive criticism is just the spark one needs to find what they are looking for.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play in the office of our house. I play acoustic, electric, and bass guitar. This profile was set up with idea of demoing gear, but it's been a long time since I stopped buying new stuff.
Your musical influences
I claim influences but fall short of sounding like any of them. I love lots of little things about a lot of bands and I'd love to incorporate those into my writing. But, I can't listen to my songs and say "man that sounds like ". It's there, but I've never been able to put my finger on it.
What equipment do you use?
- 2010 PRS Ted McCarty SC245 - 2001 PRS Singlecut - 1992 MIM Fender Telecaster (GFS Power Rock pickups and Fishman VT Powerbridge) - 1981 Takamine F360S. - Squier Standard Precision Special w/ Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, Seymour Duncan STK-J2B, Wilkinson Bridge, and parallel/series switch. - Egnater Tweaker Head - Egnater Tweaker 1x12" - Fender Rumble 100 - ZVex Box of Rock - Fulltone OCD v1 - Danelectro Fuzz CF-1 (rehoused) - Danelectro Transparent Overdrive CTO-1 - Danelectro Drive CT-1 - TC Electronic Nova System - Korg Pitchblack Tuner - Korg AX3G (great for line in recording, but a pain in the ass to set up) - Amplitube iRig - Sterling Audio ST55 - Shure SM57 - Shure SM48 - MXL 990/991 - Digi 003
Anything else?
Check out www.soundclick.com/coldthewinter for demos of songs. Some have vocals and some do not. I'm hoping to get some more versions recorded soon and put up there.
