Kasual Sickness When you think of Seattle you may think of Starbuck's coffe or Wasington apples. However, if you take a closer look and put your ear to the street you'll find that the emerald city has alot to offer in the form of hip-hop and rap music. The town has come a long way since the days of Sir Mix-A-lot and other Northwest pioneers. The styles have advanced and the artist have become more serious about painting a picture to listeners about what really goes on in the 206. A good example of this serious can in found in the work ethic of two Northwest artist who have formed a lyricly potent duo known as Kasual Sickness.Group members Culpepper and The Batchelor are focused and are ready to put a face on music from thier region. Both artist have have had experience in holding down solo prodjects. Culpepper had an independed solo debut titled "Cold Cutz" and The Batchelor made his debut with "For Felons Only".The two claim to have been a group under the name of Kasual Sickness ever since attending high school together. Following diffrent industry plans, the two had seperated but have now reunited to supply the streets with Seattle urban life served with hardcore West-coast delivery. Since they have finished thier self-titled album in August (03) they've been traveling, performing and promoting (for the album release in july) on a bi-coastal level and opening up shows for heavy hitters such as Twista, Da Brat, T.I., Bravehearts, Bubba Sparxxx and Bone Crusher. Although the group has been serving mass amounts of heat from state to state they're still trying to climb to higher levels rather than just currently being unsigned hype. When asked what kind of flavor is to be expected on up coming projects, "Aw, man...we got anthrax! I'm talkin' a variety of hot shit. We got music to club to, music to ride to, music to bang to...Shit! We even got tracks to make a baby to on some R@B type grooves!" says Culpepper. They're goal is to steer away from the average tradition laid back format of Seattle rap music. No more Chronic leave logos or the clichetic photos of the Space needle on album covers. They wish to destroy and rebuild with energetic choruses and street anthems rather than gently mumble about weed sessions and everyday violent hogwash. The rap duo claims that the name Kasual Sickness comes from thier ability to keep thier records hard but smooth at the same time. "Nobody wants to hear hard shit all the time..and at the same time if it's too smooth you risk losing the fans interest (even the females)" says Culpepper, "It's the entertainers' responsibility to create that perfect that balance between the two realms." When asked who's who concerning the groups hardness or smoothness the anwser was 50/50. Meaning that on one track Culpepper may be casual and smooth while The Batchelor is aggresively attacking the beat with what they refer to as "the sickness'. This also happens in vice versa with The Batchelor easily smooth talking a dime piece while Culpepper comes into the picture mashing hard on the females once again releasing the sickness. The overall idea of a combinaton between smooth and hard in rap music in the Northwest seems like a much needed and new refreshing way to put the town on the map.Kasual Sickness offers something for the streets as well as the clubs and not to menton some pretty hard hitting fillers. With twenty two tracks and the intense delivery of this album you should be quite satisfied. With the buzzing of past solo projects most people already recognize the team as majorly talented artist, Now it's time to listen in on what's Kasual and what's Sick.
