My teacher affectionately called this sound you are hearing "grit' in fiddle playing. This is very challenging to master, but worth the effort. I have a long way to go before getting it exactly right, but not giving up just yet. I met a fantastic fiddler a few years ago who tuned his fiddle just a little out for the sound, sounded really good when he played this way.
i am new listening to fiddle.. maybe its my ear..but do you tune just out to create that sound difference from fiddle to violin...or is it all in the note selection and approach? great chops on all you music..really liked it many thanks
