I am a composer. I have only considered myself such for about three years, and I still only consider myself an amateur in the field, but I'm now studying the art of composition in college and I hope to improve my ability.Band/artist history
I believe I already covered this in the intro...Have you performed in front of an audience?I'm a member of the Carnegie Mellon University Philharmonic Orchestra, which gives regular concerts. I am also in a string quartet, which should perform regularly as well. But as for my music being performed, I don't know how that schedule will play out.
Your musical influences
I'm not trying to mimic anyone's style. I do, however, worship 20th century Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, and apparently some aspects of his orchestration style have, according to my teacher, shown up in my work.Contact

hi julia! you are the first person that i've found whom i really sympathize with, as far as genre. i really enjoyed your trio. i'm a new composer too, and i have no training in it except 23+ years playing various instruments and the theory classes that have been slipped into that. if you're interested, i would love to hear how you got into composition and how you go about it. i'd also love to hear what you think of my attempts, if you get a chance to listen. thanks for sharing!
