Jose Luis Roman was born March 22, 1928 to Luis And Carmen Roman in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. He played the Spanish Guitar all his life. He traveled from Puerto Rico to America as a migrant farmer. He started in Florida and went all the way to New York. He worked many jobs and even owned his own Record/Candy Store. Until he moved again to New Jersey, where he lived out the rest of his life here on earth. (April 29, 2004)
No matter what job he had, he always played the guitar. He loved to sing wherever he could. I’m Luis C. Santiago, his Grandson. I have taking the tapes he left to me of his music and started making them into mp3 so they will never grow old and be lost. Now my family, no matter where they are, can come here to hear him sing again.
Jose Luis Roman played music his whole life. He had many jobs, from a migrant farmer in Florida to owning his own Record Store/Candy Shop in New York. Jose played live on a local Spanish radio station. He also played regularly for many churches in Camden and traveled to churches far away to play. He was the first Spanish man to play in a all white church in Deptford, New Jersey, and he even sang in Spanish and they loved him. He recorded over 10 hours (12 tapes) of music that are being converted to mp3 from tape, not to mention countless songs that where never captured on tape that only exist in the memories of those lucky enough to have been there.
Jose love to play live. Countless Sundays at church, birthday parties for the family, he played on a local Spanish radio show from time to time. He would walk threw the streets of Puerto Rico playing his music and if you where lucky to be near by, he loved to play in his home whenever he felt like playing.
Jose played the Spanish Guitar and also learned the electric bass. He recorded on a basic stage mic or even to a generic tape recorder.
I would like to thank you all for coming to this site. I hope you can enjoy Jose’s Music, the way we all did.
