John Newsome is a Newcastle born and bred singer / songwriter with a love for acoustic warmth and catchy tunes. John’s earliest memory of music is sharing his Father’s headphones plugged into a reel to reel player. After that, John was hooked. “I started recording my own tapes at 5 years old using a little battery organ. I was fascinated with songs and melodies and how my voice could imitate them”.
John wrote his first song as a teenager and has been fascinated with the song writing process ever since, spending loads of time practicing the craft. Later as a primary school teacher, John set about teaching children to write their own songs and as a result co-produced numerous children’s CD’s. His passion for producing music is infectious and spills out in the form of adventurous and thoughtful songs.
Carrying a dream of something more to life, John decided to leave primary school teaching in 2003 and set out to pursue his musical desires. The result is the debut album “Mesmerising”. He is a self produced artist possessing a unique stand out voice and songs that resonate with sincerity and heart. John is a musical story teller and loves to perform, create and inspire.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I love playing live-i am the worship and creative arts pastor of a church in Newcastle called Macquarie Life where I play every weekend. When I can, I play in cafes and churches. I need to make the time to play in other places in our great city- which is challenging to play original music in.

I am acoustic/ pop/ rock/ folk. I love music that inspires, causes you to dream. Artists i am into include: Neil Finn & crowded house, Sting,
Josh Pyke, Chris Tomlin, United, delirious? and early 90's aussie bands like Icehouse, Noiseworks, Boom Crash Opera
What equipment do you use?
One guitar and one voice. Sometimes I play with a band because that's lots of fun.
