J-Lee, born John Lee Walker on December 17th 1981 is one of the young artistes in Jamaica to watch out for. His talents as a singer and songwriter are undeniable and he is steadily on his way from rural St Andrew, where he grew up, to conquer the international music scene. As he says, he has had an interesting life so far, which has been full of challenges that he is always ready to overcome. As a student of Mona High School and Excelsior Community College he realized that his true calling was music and he decided to use his God given talent to build his career. J-Lee particularly loves R&B, reggae, lover’s rock and soul and he started singing and writing songs in college. His lyrics reflect his emotions and therefore his songs touch
anyone who chooses to listen.
J-Lee was a member of the Cathy Levi Players from 2002 until 2004. During this time he attended classes in dance, drama and voice training. He proudly acknowledges Miss Cathy
Levy for all the time and effort she placed into his career.
In 2004, J-Lee entered the National Popular Song Contest and placed 5th. J-Lee says that the most important aspect about the contest was the experience itself, such as the exposure, interaction with other artistes as well as the work ethic it has instilled in him He remembers the contest as being very competitive, which helped him to motivate himself and build his
confidence.
In his recording career J-Lee has so far worked with well known producers such as; Mickey Bennett, for whom he has recorded his now heavily rotated radio hit “Give me your Loving”. He also worked with Donovan Germaine of Penthouse Records and most recently, MainSource Muzik, to whom he was recently signed as their flagship artist.
The future is looking bright for this young artiste, who believes that it guarantees success to always put God first. With appearances on CVM’s “The Party” as well as a Youth Link cover under his belt he is surely on his way. J-Lee currently is working on promoting his current EP “Giving You Loving”.Your musical influences
