I started playing the hammered dulcimer in December of 2004 and began playing out in March of 2005. I play solo, or with my group, the Middle of NoWhere Dulcimer Players. We average playing out once a month, more during the Christmas season.
Band/artist history
Welcome to our world! Our group was formed in the summer of 2005 and have been regularly playing for a variety of venues since that fall. We enjoy playing in any setting, and for any group of folks. The group currnetly consists of Bobbi Bodenhamer, Jim Taylor and Gary Chilton. We are located in Surry County, North Carolina, between Elkin and Mt. Airy, or in the middle of nowhere! The MONWDP play a wide variety of music - from old-time fiddle tunes to modern-contemporary, with a few Celtic and Gospel songs that are sure to warm your heart. No venue is too big, nor to small for us!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live by myself or with the group. We play virtually any type of gig - we're not picky. I love play out live. One of the most special moments came recently when we preformed for a group of folks. One of the attendees had graduated from Juliard, and afterwards she told us that she had heard a lot of fine music in her time, but had never heard anyone make an instrument sing the way that we made those hammered dulcimers sing - pretty darn special compliment coming from someone who knows music!
Your musical influences
Dulcimer Dan Gilvary, Russell Cook, Alex Lifeson of Rush, David Gilmore of Pink Floyd
What equipment do you use?
Masterworks Hammered Dulcimer - no need for a P.A. The hammered dulcimer is loud enough for almost any venue.
