On January 16th, 1990, Joshua Allen Weare, currently known as singer and rapper J. Harmony, was born in Olympia, Washington. He was raised as a military child, moving from place to place, but holds his first memories in Germany. He attended seven different elementary schools and two middle schools, but was fortunate enough to remain at one high school for all four years. After the divorce of his parents, Weare lived primarily with his father, until family conflict forced him and his younger brother, Justin, to move in with their mother during his Sophomore year of high school.
During his freshman year of high school in 2005, Weare began writing poetry along with creating and selling beats to other aspiring artists. Much of what he wrote revolved around the family conflict at hand. When his father found some of the poems, he became furious and discouraged Weare from ever writing again. Against his fathers wishes, Weare continued writing, creating his curiosity in music and eventually leading him to sign up for an open mic night at Greenbrier High School.
Feeling like he could neither sing nor rap, Weare became frustrated with music in his Junior year of high school. Although he was troubled, there was one aspect of music he had faith in: writing. Weare decided to experiment by becoming a ghost writer for his cousins boyfriend, Donnie, who has his own independent label, Destruckshun Ent. It was not long before Weare was inspired to give singing another shot after working with Donnie, who nonetheless became his vocal coach.
In May of 2008, Destruckshun Ent opened for Webbie, an American rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at Payne College in Augusta, Georgia. Weare was able to watch as Destruckshun Ent performed his well-written song titled U Bad which become regionally popular.
After developing a solid writing foundation, Weare moved to Texas in September of 2009 where he attended San Antonio College. It is here where he met singer and guitarist, Jon Paulino who is originally from Guam. At the time, Paulino only played cover songs, so Weare put his writing skills to use by creating reference songs (how lyrics are supposed to sound in a song) for his new business partner to record. Their music was strictly business, but it did not take much time for the two to become best friends.
Months later, Paulino introduced Weare to his good friend, Christy Jo Rupley. Instantaneously, she became his inspiration as lyrics filled his mind. He wrote and recorded songs titled Pretty Brown Skin and Last First Kiss with words referencing her beauty and his amazement. Weare continued until Rupley finally realized his intentions after hearing her name recorded in his most popular song titled Make You Mine. Weare is now proud to say he is currently dating Rupley who continues to inspire his music.
