R&B/Soul/Pop

What is Hip-Hop? What is Soul? Those are two questions that can easily be argued by the music consumer today. Is there a right or wrong answer? No, in the same way that the phrase "Keep It Real" can't be pigeonholed into a right or wrong action. It's all about what it means to you as a person. Enter in Jazz Digga, an old soul with hip-hop roots. Born Deland Wilson, Digga became infatuated with music at the early age of 2. By closely watching his mother direct church choirs, he learned how to infuse multiple harmonies effortlessly. Keeping his skills quiet, Digga also began to write his own songs at age 10. Unsure of how anyone would react to a young singer who also liked rap, Digga remained contained. Having a father who was already a professional singer put immense pressure on him to show that he indeed had talent. So in 1990, after hip-hop's first golden era (1988), Digga decided to let that talent be known since rhyming was also an intense passion of his. Joining his younger 4 brothers in what some were calling a "new school Jackson 5", Digga became a leader in "The Heavenly Boyz". A dancing, rapping hip-hop group full of youthful energy and new methods of getting the message of God's love across. Their father would eventually join the group, giving them mass appeal for families and communities alike. Pop Heavenly & The Heavenly Boyz would go on to travel and spread love across the country for 10 years straight!! But Jazz Digga was still partially contained. By being a member in a group, he couldn't fulfill the purpose God had designed for him. His heart wasn't in it. As a result, it caused him to stray away from his calling...reaching people. He began to entertain all types of temptation such as money, women, accolades and other materialistic things. He was headed nowhere fast. He had gotten his girlfriend pregnant, left home, and had no income. The group was fading, no one wanted to hear six grown men sing about God and family values dressed in expensive suits. They didn't seem real...they weren't. Jazz Digga and his brothers had a real story to tell. But they couldn't do it by looking like people they weren't. So after scooping up a couple of their cousins, the guys formed Ace Dynasty, a group of seven emcees with seven different styles. Dressed in whatever made them comfortable, they were ready...almost. One particular emcee, had to seriously take a step back and examine the situation. Jazz Digga had recently given his heart back to Christ, gotten married to his girlfriend, and had a son. So he was slightly apprehensive about doing music again. After a serious heart-to-heart with his brother, Willie Will, they decided that if they were going to do it again, it had to be done the right way this time! Not compromising for anyone, Jazz Digga began writing song after song until he had enough for an album or two, or three! Keeping Christ at the center, he pulled from all of his influences ranging from gospel to hip-hop in order to deliver surefire head-nodders that marry hip-hop to soul. The outcome, an album full of Christ-laden grooves that move that innermost prized posession of your being...the soul.
