Jay is a singer songwriter who has had an interesting and eclectic journey through music to get where he is today. He has gone full circle in the style of music he writes and produces. He started learning guitar when he was 14 and almost immediately started writing songs. His first song was called "Radiator" and was about a radiator (UK heating device). He joined a band called GeeK at the age of 17 and spent 3 years writing songs and playing gigs around the local area. They recorded a 5 track demo which unfortunately never got released. The band continued until they all went to different universities and got into different musical styles. Jay then began writing electronica and drum and bass and spent the next few years producing and Djing. He then returned to his roots on the guitar and has been writing and recording acoustic and rock since. He writes, records and produces all his own music in a small home studio at his home in Stourbridge. He recorded his first full acoustic album in 2006 called "Reborn Acoustic" which was a collection of his own works along with covers of "Dead or Alive", "Fly me to the Moon" and "Thats Life". He then recorded the Despiphany E.P. in 2007 - a selection of 5 fully produced songs which he enlisted his old band mates from GeeK to help him record. He is currently working on a new album of acoustic tracks.
1994 - 1997: Learning to play guitar and write songs
1997 - 2001: Played in GeeK as singer/songwriter/rhythmn guitar
2001 - 2003: Experimental stuff in a small computer based studio
2003 - 2006: Known as GLeeD producing Drum and Bass, funk, acid jazz and anything else that took my fancy.
2006 - Present: Returned to my acoustic roots and started being known under my own name.
I much prefer studio work than playing live. Not that I can't play live, but I find my perfectionist nature takes all the fun out of performing to a live audience. I tend to over criticise myself.
Early on it was bands like The Lemonheads,Counting Crowes, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, The Doors etc but more recently Damien Rice, Ray Lamontagne and Jack Johnson along with a big selection of 60's and 70's Funk and Soul.
