Band/artist history
"amazing tone...unmistakable talent as a guitarist." - Peter D'Addario, PAMI Group Consulting "a fiery, aggressive gunslinger of great dexterity with a gorgeous, harmonic-rich tone...a talent to watch." - Fort Worth Weekly Outsider. Maverick. Enigma. Trailblazer. Visionary. Words that depict someone that does not compromise his ideals while following his own unique path towards self-defined perfection. In the world of modern music, these words could be used when describing guitarist/songwriter/producer Jason Davis and his musical offerings. A combination of a formal music education with a "devil-may-care" attitude full of both virtuosity as well as reckless abandon, Jason's idiosyncratic take on aural stimulation could be viewed as his attempt to create his own musical manifesto or unique art form...perhaps his own 21st Century blues, if you will. Loosely put, both Jason's music and guitar work are equally a cross between safety and danger...the familiar and the other-worldly...lovely and down-right scary. And that's exactly how he likes it! A subscriber of the notion that "one must know the rules before they can be broken", Jason achieved his Bachelor of Music as well as a Master of Music Theory/Composition degree in order to fully understand both past and present theories of concert music and its applications. Perhaps his love for the music of Frank Zappa helped shape Jason's tastes towards the music of the 20th Century, as demonstrated in his compositions "Charateratures for Solo Cello", "Shadows in Motion (for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Piano)", "The Narrow Road (for Flute and Piano)" and his Master's thesis "The Fire Within (for Chamber Orchestra and Drum Set)". The latter, an ambitious project full of shifting meters, jagged atonal solos at break-neck speed, and clusters of dissonant chords, most exemplifies Jason's desire to step outside of the norm and push the boundaries of conventional music. But Jason's first love was (and continues to be) rock music. Loud music. Music that shakes your fillings and rattles your bones. Combining his then fresh compositional experiences with the crude, raw energy that is rock, Jason formed Einstein's Car with bassist John Lally. Described as "King Crimson meets King's X at Frank Zappa's barbeque," the band began playing the Pittsburgh scene with Ryan Blair (a high school friend and well-round beatmaster) completing the group. Einstein's Car entered the studio and recorded their debut release, Apocalypso, a music journey consisting of grunge/groove rock, ethereal ballads, progressive meter shifts, and quirky silliness. However, moving to Texas with his wife proved to be the next positive step in Jason's musical career. Creating a relationship with FirstCom Music (a BMG music publishing company), Jason began to write and record raucous guitar-drenched music that found its way into programs such as "Saturday Night Live", "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", "Inside the NFL", "Extra", ESPN's "X-Games", "Mad TV", and countless others. Networks such as UPN, FOX, MTV, HBO, and ESPN also took advantage of Jason's fiery guitar work in many of their promos and commercials. Hot on the heels of this new-found success came Jason's highly-anticipated solo release, particleWorld. Pulling from a range of influences including hard rock, jazz, classical, experimental, and drum n' bass, particleWorld fused the precision and quirks of the digital domain with the warmth and sputtering chaos of the analog world to further push the boundaries of contemporary music. A number of tracks from particleWorld also found their way on programs such as "WWE Raw", "Access Hollywood", "NFL Total Access", "America's Most Wanted", and others. Next to follow would be a formal endorsement with Parker Guitars, the most innovative guitar line since the introduction of the Fender Stratocaster. The unique shape as well as forward-thinking design and tonal possibilities matched Jason's style perfectly and has remained Jason's only instrument of choice to this day. PAMI Group's Peter D'Addario, marketing consultant for Parker Guitars and of the famous J. D'Addario family, stated "After listening to 'particleWorld' we knew right away Jason Davis was the kind of guitar player that understood the vast diversity of Parker Guitars. His CD shows not only the amazing tone and diversity of a Parker, but also his unmistakable talent as a guitarist." In striving to expose his music to more people across the country, Jason hooked up with the National Basketball Association in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and appeared as a part of the NBA Rhythm & Rims Tour, an across-the-country tour fusing basketball competition with a cross section of musical styles and NBA player appearances. Along with scheduled club appearances while in the various cities, Jason and his live band played with the NBA at locations such as Denver's Blues & Bones Festival, Chicago's Rock Around The Block, the International Buskerfest, The Taste of Dallas Festival, and back-to back annual appearances at Universal Studios Hollywood City Walk. Through his career thus far, Jason has been fortunate to share the stage with MC Lyte, Cee-Lo, The Nixon's Zac Maloy, Grammy nominated band Nappy Root and others. The first half of 2005 found Jason entering into an artist endorsement with Emerald Guitars, the Irish guitar manufacturer leading the way in the construction of acoustic guitars with carbon as an alternative material to wood. Jason also formed a relationship with Vinci Strings, inventors of the first automated string-winding machine and current producer of the finest guitar strings available, to solely play their products on his instruments. In April, Jason and his power trio were booked as the featured artist for BMG Music at the 2005 National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas, NV, and captivated audiences comprised of the 130,000+ attendees from around the world to the convention. Along with continued live performances and a number of recording projects on the horizon (including a planned 2005 solo release titled "Balance" as well as additional music for FirstCom Music), Jason can be found spending time with his lovely wife and children, jamming with his new power trio, constantly swapping out effects on his pedal board, eating Tex-Mex, and rethinking ways to take over the world with six strings, a cranked amplifier, and a renegade spirit.
